As with any new building, there are materials used in our project that will burn if exposed to fire. Although it’s highly unlikely the steel structure supporting Das Build will ever catch fire, prolonged heat exposure during a fire may impair the steel’s ability to support the load it is carrying. Therefore, all of the steel that is supporting the second floor must be coated with a fibrous fire retardant so the second floor will remain above the first floor for as long as possible, if not forever. While we respect and support this building code requirement, it is disappointing to see the carefully engineered, machined and assembled surfaces covered with an unsightly fibrous goo. Thankfully, the goo itself will be covered and or hidden behind other more appealing surfaces as Das Build moves forward.
